SONWA Award
I have just received word that THE BOY WHO GREW A FOREST: The True Story of Jadav Payeng has been selected as the winning book in the children’s category of the 2019 Sigurd F. Olson Nature Writing Award! This means so much to me. I am incredibly honored and grateful. I hope Jadav's story continues to inspire young readers everywhere.
From the committee:
"The SONWA emphasizes the importance of wonder as the foundation for our appreciation of nature and the values that lead to its preservation," said Alan Brew, executive director of the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute.
"...The Boy Who Grew a Forest: The True Story of Jadav Payeng, affirms the potential for youth empowerment and action," said the SONWA committee.
“Both of the winning books offer inspiring stories of individuals who overcame significant personal trauma and hardship to speak and act for the trees and forests that sustain all human life on earth,” said Alan Brew, executive director of the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute. “They meaningfully carry forward the citizen-activist and artistic legacies of Sigurd Olson.”
